Languages
English and French (both official). Québec is predominantly French-speaking. New Brunswick is officially bilingual.
Montréal
Montréal is majority French-speaking. English is widely understood in tourist areas — always start with Bonjour and people will respond in whichever language you need.
eTA (Electronic Travel Authorisation)
Most visa-exempt visitors (UK, EU, Australia, and many others) need an eTA to fly into Canada. Apply at canada.ca. Cost: CAD $7.
US Citizens
US citizens do not need an eTA or visa — a valid US passport or passport card is sufficient for entry.
General Safety
Very Safe Canada is consistently ranked among the world's safest countries. Violent crime in tourist areas is very rare.

911 — Police, Fire, Ambulance. Universal across all provinces and territories.
Wildlife
In national parks: bear awareness is essential. Carry bear spray in the Rockies. Never approach wildlife. Keep food secured at all times.
