Domestic Travel
The US domestic flight network is extensive. Southwest, Delta, United, American, and budget carriers connect all major cities. Book ahead for best fares.
Currency
US Dollar (USD $) — the global reserve currency. Cards accepted everywhere. Contactless payments universal in cities.
Tipping
Tipping is mandatory in the US — not optional. Restaurants: 18–20% minimum. Bartenders: $1–2 per drink. Hotel housekeeping: $3–5/night. Taxi: 15–20%.
Sales Tax
Sales tax is added at checkout — not included in displayed prices. Varies by state: 0% (Oregon, Montana) to 9.5%+ (California, Louisiana).
Value
Costs vary enormously by city. New York and San Francisco rival London and Paris. New Orleans and the South are significantly more affordable.

B-2 Tourist Visa
Required for citizens of countries not in the Visa Waiver Program. Apply at the nearest US Embassy. Processing times vary significantly — apply months ahead.
Canadian Citizens
Canadian citizens do not need a visa or ESTA — a valid passport is sufficient for tourism.
